Mount Kinabalu Climb !!!
“Glove, got! Six t-shirt, got! Chocolate got! …”
Early in the morning of 22 Novemeber 2008 (Sat), I woke up around 4 am and rechecked what I need to bring along for my battle, The Battle to Reach the Top of Mt Kinabalu. Then together with my friends from Indah Permai, we waited at the bus sop. It was raining and it made me anxious that at Mt Kinanbalu also raining and we will not allow climbing. The bus was late and made Beng Hin to call him a lot of time. Oh, the driver could not wake up…
Although we reached the Mesilau later than we expected (around 9am), Beng Hin and the others quickly settled the registration for all the 24 Fighters. We all got a name tag with our name on it and a number. Besides, we also had given the lunch pack which consisted of egg, two sausages, sandwich, fried chicken wing and a bottle of mineral water. Although we should some how happy as we were given food, but most of us felt that the lunch pack was an extra burden for us. Heavy bah!
With that we started our journey to the enemy base, the Mt Kinabalu peak, Low’s Peak. As the troop was guided by three guides, the most experienced guide was at the back of 24 people. For all of us, our first target was to reach Laban Rata before 5pm to have our buffet dinner. However for the starting of the journey, there was a few of the Fighters started to feel not well. Maybe they could not adapt to the change of atmosphere or the pressure they felt or… A lot of maybe but important there were people accompany others, took care of each others, gave support and encouraged each other to take one more step forward and get nearer to Laban Rata.

On the journey, 24 Fighters became in three or more groups as the speed and stamina for different people were different. Beng Hin and I were at the back of all people to make sure everyone can at least reach Laban Rata. On the way up, there was rain. We wore our raincoat. At the start, I also wore my yellow raincoat but very soon I took off the raincoat as I felt very uncomfortable and sticky. I changed to umbrella. Umbrella during hiking?! Cannot imagine, right? This also was my response when I listened to the tip given by my course mate, Hui Pin, who managed to reach the peak of Mt. Kinabalu. However, can’t deny, I felt taking umbrella is better than wearing raincoat. Besides, all the guides were using umbrella too.

On the way, there were a lot of pondok (rest point) and we will very happy to see one in front of us as we can rest for awhile, recharge, and drink and eat. But we knew that we cannot rest too much as we will become more tired and lazy to continue our journey. I noticed that we, the group at the last were farer and farer to the group at the front. So we walked and climbed faster and finally at the pondok, we met the group in front of us. Once we sat down, the front group started to move. It happened for many pondok.
5 in the afternoon already, we were still far from Laban Rata. A lot of us were became exhausted and discouraged and wanted to give up. However a few of us kept encourage and gave support to them to move forward. Moving upward a mountain for more than 7 hours really was the first time. 2 more hours the buffet dinner will finish. Besides we heard from the guide said that the first group already reached the Laban Rata.
Finally we reached Laban Rata at 9 in the night. We took our packed dinner pack as the buffet finished already and quickly went to sleep. Just 4 more hours then we need to wake up and climb again.

We woke up 1.30am and went to gather. We ate some biscuit and listened to a short briefing then the journey continued. Just 18 people still wanted to challenge the Summit Trail. At the beginning of the journey, we just climbed stairs with slow pace as there were a lot of people hence it like traffic jam. After the stairs, we started to experience different type of challenge. We started to use rope to climb in the dark and with only our torch light, slippery path, cold and lack of air. We all almost on our own pace and own our own ,as around me, there was no one that I knew.

We started to use rope to climb in the dark and with only our torch light, slippery path, cold and lack of air. We all almost on our own pace and own our own ,as around me, there was no one that I knew.
As the cool, heavy and tiring body of mine was trying it best to take one more step ahead and nearer to the top of Mt Kinabalu, some already reached the top and some still behind me. The thought of “why paying so much (RM 330) to torture myself?” kept popping up. But I knew that I must reach the peak no matter what.

YIPEE!! I finally reached the Low’s Peak and there already had a lot of people. Everyone was busy taking photograph with the Low’s Peak sign board. The sunrise was what we were rushed for but that moment, at the peak we just saw a lot of cloud and couldn’t saw the sunrise. Some of us already felt very cold and ask to continue the journey back to Laban Rata. Hence, we quickly took a group photo.

For me, I suddenly felt very tired on the journey back to Laban Rata. Tired and low in energy were what I felt. I sat down and took some glucose drink prepared from my friends and ate some Tiger biscuit. After a short rest, five of us continued. As I still lacked of energy, hence a few steps I took, I stopped for awhile. With the slow and unsteady steps, I finally reached Laban Rata around 10am. The journey down from the peak was harder for me compare to climb up to the peak as my feet and knee needed to absorb a lot of pressure.

At Laban Rata, we all took our breakfast, and took a rest then we were being instructed to start going down from Laban Rata to Tempohon Gate. The Tempohon trail was filled with stairs, not so well built stairs. Again, my knee needed to work hard. The path was rocks, mud and seldom have pavement. The path was also river as that time the rain was heavy. With the journey started at around 11am, we all reached the Tempohon at 3pm. We quickly on boarded our school bus and headed to the Kinabalu park to take our Buffet Lunch at 3.30pm.
That buffet, we ate a lot as a lot choices available for us to choose from. We enjoyed the buffet to the fullest and we prepared to go back to UMS. In the bus, we get two certificates for those that reached the top and one for those that reached Laban Rata. All felt asleep in the way back to UMS and woke up at Kingfisher when we were needed to change school bus with Labuan trip (also organized by the UMS Chung Ling Ex-student Club) people.
The whole battle with Mount Kinabalu was a new challenge and experience for me. At that time, I thought that I will never try it again to climb the Mt Kinabalu. But now, I have the desire to experience once more! For those that haven’t tried it before should train oneself and give it a try.

What a Experience in Rafting 2008!!!
Today I go for rafting, organized by Chung Ling`s Ex-students Club, it is really an enjoyable, adventurous and unforgettable experience for me.(Although tired after back, hehe..).Actually I miss this time “exploration” already, but finally during (24-09-2008), my friends, Pei Zhi and Eric told me about this trip and invite me go together. Luckily, I still can join in and go.
We start go to Tenom by using “White Water Rafting Specialist” Bus from UMS at 7.30am. Along the journey, we go across Crocker Range and after 3 hours we reach at Tenom town. After that, we get a chance to proceed to Pangi by train. This is my first time using the traditional train, really a nice experience for me. Then, we reach at the starting point of the rafting activities. We provided by equipment and then safety briefing is given by river guide and the rafting commence.
The 30km white water rafting is started. Along the Padas River, there are many rapids. We need to paddle hard when go across the rapids. Thanks that my raft not over turn (as this is the spirit of teamwork shown by my teammates on the raft, thanks you all). Some of the rafts are turn over when meet the rapids and the rafters on the raft all are fall into the river. At the calm water, some of us pushed or pulled by others to go into the rivers, but we are enjoying that.
After 9th kilometer journey(which already covers seven classes III-IV), we take lunch and rest at Rayoh Station. Then, we continue the journey down the majestic rainforest of Borneo. I really can feel the natural surrounding along the 30km journey of rafting. It is really a fantastic experience. Finally we reached at the endpoint, Halogilat and then speedboats to Beaufort town.
Because we are finished our rafting late, we need to go along the river in dark. I am THANKS TO GOD that all of us come back to UMS in safety. By here, I really enjoy this trip. I hope I still can join the trips or activities that organized by UMS Chung Ling Ex-students Club again. (If it is still also open to non Chung Ling Ex-students la.., haha.., hope so…) Erm.., I also appreciate this chance for me to join the trip with my friends them (Eric, Pei Zhi, Kah Wah, Guan Wei, Tee Kheng), although I am not come from Penang, not the Ex-student of Chung Ling High School, but this trip are open to non Chung Ling Ex-students make me can have this opportunity.
Hey guys, especially to Eric, Pei Zhi, Kah Wah, Guan Wei, and Tee Kheng, remember the motto, “Paddle Or Die” ? We finally paddle hard when crossing “fierce” rapids, and now we already are the Padas River`s Raft Master, yeah…..Thanks you all guys, to bring the best and enjoy experience to me (after come to UMS 3 months), Thanks!!!

.jpg)
.jpg)
.jpg)
.jpg)

.JPG)
.JPG)
.JPG)

.jpg)

Trip to Kundasang (19 July till 20 July 2008, Weekend)
TRIP TO KUNDASANG
I considered myself very lucky enough as I have only reached for three weeks, I got a chance to visit Kundasang which is really a beautiful place. Before I start my journey, I felt that is nothing worth for me to visit a just isolated or a common mountain which is very far away from where I am staying. I have to leave all my works such as washing works, shopping and so on which are I think is more enjoyable than the visit. I felt a little of doubt when I first saw the bus which I have to travelled in it for roughly three hours.
But,once I started my journey, I feel enjoyable as I can have fun with my new friends who comes from different Chung Ling. They share their own experience and either I. I have learned something new from their experience which I can use it through out my university life. Especially from seniors, they shared their campus life. It is very precious as these types of experiences would not be taught in whatever lectures especially their technique of studying. All of these have made me feel confident to go through my future life in this place which I have never been to here.
When we reached the first market which the bus have stopped, I feel impressed as in this isolated place, there are still many people living in it. Besides that, I also impressed by the beautiful scenery which will never can be seen at others place. My friends enjoy buying the cap which looks very cute. We travelled for another 1 hour before we reached our destination. Once we reached, an alumni’s family is waiting there, welcoming our arrival. We check in a very old chalet which I have enjoyed my first ever trip in Sabah. We have our dinner after we prepared our dinner. The climate is really cold and some seniors said that we can see the peak of Mount. Kinabalu from there. But we just couldn’t see it. At that moment, I feel that is destiny…… I have a good and proper rest at there. I just enjoyed everything at there included coldness and the night view.
We also have a visit to Kundasang Park which is also a nice place. At there, we became closer to each others and I felt that friendship between us have been built. At least, I won’t feel some strangeness among us. After that, we also visited to a very famous place-Hot Spring. At there, I have tried many things that I have never attempted before. We hiked the mountain although for a little distance, I felt that we took care of each others especially the seniors who are always taking care of us. I also tried Canopy Walk at there and I feel very enjoyable walking through that path. Then, we started our journey to our hostel.
In the journey, seniors introduced some attractive place in Sabah. They also planned to have visits at there with us in semester break and others holidays. This makes me feel that I am not the only one at here in Sabah. They have shown us many pictures which they have taken in their trip to these places. Along the journey, we finally saw the most impressed scenery ever in my life-Mount. Kinabalu. It just looks like a big picture in front of you. I can saw clearly the waterfall in the mountain. All of us were like crazy and busy having some nice pictures as memory in our life. I really felt impressed bout that scene and it makes me willing to sacrifice my time to visit here once more time.
It is really a very good and memorable experience for us as well as for my friends. Through out this trip, the relationship among us and seniors became stronger. This makes me feels that I have many friends who can help me whenever I face any problems. At that day, I felt very happy and everything is on the right path. I feel confident enough to challenge my future life in this beautiful university which has born at the same day and month of my birthday. Besides that, when the time my principal said that CHUNG LING is our second home, I felt silly and funny. But now, at this place, at this moment, with these guys, I can really feel that………. This is all my experience. I would like to thank all my seniors and the alumni……

Episode 3: 40th kundasang CL World Carnival Workshop
Episode 3....
The journey continued by going to the Pouring, the main attraction of this trip. At there, first we need to settle our small luggage by renting a locker which cost us RM 3.00 per locker. A lot of us shared the locker. Then we had problem with a lot of place want to go but with limited time as we need to depart and go back UMS before day dark. Starting we said want to make to groups which one group go waterfall first then go canopy walk and vice versa. However, we merged the group finally and had fun together. Firstly, we went to the waterfall.
Really…speechless and just felt very excited with the waterfall in front of me. I really love waterfall but you know in Penang, not so much waterfall we can find, right? I quickly took of my shirt and took a dip inside the crystal clear water.
The water was really cool but really refreshing. I just targeted the waterfall where the water fall. I know that the area below the water fall is really dangerous but Kok Khang told me there had stone for me to step on it. Then I was like the hero in the Hong Kong movie Wind and Cloud that train under the water pressure of the waterfall. Really like taking a strong message. Now I writing it, and felt like want to enjoy again. Some of them did not jump into the water as they scared their t-shirt become wet. But naughty me, I splashed water on them. Not so much right, for those that ‘kena’ from me.
At the waterfall, again, we took a few very funny and nonsense photo which until attracted some ‘audience’ from around.
After the wet activity, we went to the canopy walk. The canopy walk started with climbing a moderate distance to the bridge. Then, we in a group of six started the canopy walk. The canopy walk is: we walk on a hanging bridge across the jungle. So we were a few metres high from the ground. You all know that Chung Ling guys afraid becoming boring. So of course they will swing and swing the bridge with full force until the group members scouted so loud that I from far away still can hear it. Ending the canopy walk means the ending of the trip. We changed our clothes then we on board the bas sekolah and departed.
However the ending of the trip not really began as we kept continuing the spirit in the bus. We stopped by the market and bought some stuff to take back UMS. For me, I bought salak ,which is a fruit that with the skin like snake. I treated them to eat it but I warn them first that do not try a large piece first as some will not able to accept the unique taste of it. I made a survey on the spot and really most of them can accept the taste however some really cannot accept it. Like what I predicted. On the other hand, Lip Fong recommended a type of keropok that has round in shape and taste like keropok ikan. It is a famous keropok in Sabah. Here, I will not write the name of the keropok as me and Lip Fong had argument about the name. So to prevent misleading or wrong information, find it out yourself by asking the Sabahan or whatever method. While eating, Lip Fong and me started to introduce our Club Annual Activities. Lip Fong showed them some of the interesting place with his laptop. The junior enjoyed a lot listen to what the activities that are coming and what in Sabah that awaited them. However, the scenery outside took away their attention which is the Mt. Kinabalu. I also want to take a better look of the Mt K. We stopped by and all of us were crazy to take photo. The waterfall, the rock , the tree…all can be seen clearly. Finally we took a group photo with th Mt.K. Really the best.
Our journey really came to the end by taking a dinner at 818 restaurant in Kingfisher. But the ending of the trip, I think, is the starting of our family bond. We all really enjoyed it especially myself really felt happy as can together with the new juniors and the seniors and my same batch friends. Long lost feeling was coming back that time. I believe we will have more and more fun again and again with you all!!!

Episode 2 : 40th Chung Ling World Carnival, Kundasang Workshop
Episode 2 ....
Then the fun really started. First we took a journey to Mesilau where we had some fun time there. As we were nearer to the destination, the air became cooler and cooler.
It was really relaxing and smoothing when you took a deep breath in with the fresh and cool air. We went directly to the Mesilau Park entrance without stopping at any place. We took the bas sekolah and other people followed other Xue Zhang’s vehicle. When we reached there, we didn’t see anyone hence we call to ask other people. We called Beng Hin, but the reception at that altitude was really bad. Finally we were connected but at the same moment, we also knew that we missed some junction to get into some interesting place, the golf club. However we all got down from the bus and took a look around there as the scenery is really breath-taking and wonderful. The haze and the green forest made you felt like you were in the heaven. All of us took a walk around that area and the fun part was during all of us taking photos.
We took a few very interesting photo that moment and already up loaded to share with you all. I felt really happy as I although is the 3rd year senior who is the oldest at that time but we were really crazy together and made some crazy pose for the photo.
Then the van came with some other people inside. We, the bas sekolah people, had to walk up as we were too heavy and the bus could not ‘climb’ up the hill bringing we all these elephants. We reach the starting point of the Mt Kinabalu climbing. Actually nothing much there besides a few houses which for me is just a little different and just a little special.
However we didn’t forget to take a group photo
and the photo you will not find the senior, Kok Khang, as he ‘luan luan chau’ when we took the group photo.
Our next destination was to the Strawberry Farm to take our lunch.
We had our lunch near a flower farm . The lunch to me, was really delicious and a lot to eat. So for those table that could not finish gave the food some table need more food. So considered is in the equilibrium. Hehe… After the lunch we took a tour to the flower farm. Something funny happened there was we being cheated ,eeerrr.., could not say really cheated that in the flower farm had Raffesial Flower. We being guided by Mr. Tony’s son to admire the Raffesial, the man made Raffesial. We laugh there and still took photo there together with the fake Raffesial. In the farm, a few of the guys bought roses including myself . What is the purpose of buying roses, some said buy for girlfriend, some denied and said buy for themselves and enjoy the beauty of the roses in their own room. Whatever lah!!!
