40th Chung Ling World Carnival

Episode 1

“40th Chung Ling World Carnival”, what such a big words and seem so grand to us, Chung Ling people.

I dare not say lucky or unlucky, the Sabah Alumni is the host for this big event. At the start, we, the UMS-Chung Ling Ex-student Club members know nothing about the Carnival, seem to be part of the Carnival indirect or without the chance to choose whether we want to involve or not. OK,OK..actually we feel really lucky and willing to contribute back to the Sabah Chung Ling Alumni as they are always there to support us, year by year.

Before the event started, we actually have a lot of preparation need to be done. That day just flipped through my file and I noticed we already start to have meeting with the Alumni last year already. It means they started to prepare and discuss a year ago just for the three days carnival. Actually, the one year preparation actually is a need as around 700 people came during those three days. Their transport, their accommodation, their meals, their program, their tour, their… all of this, the Alumni need to take care of. I really need to salute them; my Sabah Chung Ling Alumni seniors as they can plan, coordinate, and take action for the comfort of those comers. Although still have people complain this and complain that, but they really did an excellent job, at least in my view. On our side, the committee most important task is that we can find at least 30 people to help up during the three days and whenever we are needed. 30 people out of 90 total members of the club seem very easy task, right? No, you are wrong! To confirm the amount as work force during the carnival needed a lot of sms, a lot of calls, and whatever ways of communication which included our blog and sending email. This cannot blame them as we as a student in UMS we cannot predict anything in hand. We can have pop quiz, replacement class, quiz, midterm exam at the last minute notice. This is how our UMS system goes. Luckily at last during the Carnival, the people showed up and came for help. Really need to thanks those juniors for their willingness to help and their eagerness. Same go to the seniors especially those that in their final year which have their thesis need to finish.

.....to be continued

(28-09-2008,)
Today I go for rafting, organized by Chung Ling`s Ex-students Club, it is really an enjoyable, adventurous and unforgettable experience for me.(Although tired after back, hehe..) Actually I miss this time “exploration” already, but finally during (24-09-2008), my friends, Pei Zhi and Eric told me about this trip and invite me go together. Luckily, I still can join in and go. We start go to Tenom by using “White Water Rafting Specialist” Bus from UMS at 7.30am. Along the journey, we go across Crocker Range and after 3 hours we reach at Tenom town. After that, we get chance to proceed to Pangi by train. This is my first time using the traditional train, really a nice experience for me. Then, we reach at the starting point of the rafting activities. We provided by equipment and then safety briefing is given by river guide and the rafting commence. The 30km white water rafting is started. Along the Padas River, there are many rapids. We need to paddle hard when go across the rapids. Thanks that my raft not over turn (as this is the spirit of teamwork shown by my teammates on the raft, thanks you all) Some of the rafts are turn over when meet the rapids and the rafters on the raft all are fall into the river. At the calm water, some of us pushed or pulled by others to go into the rivers, but we are enjoying that. After 9th kilometer journey(which already covers seven classes III-IV), we take lunch and rest at Rayoh Station. Then, we continue the journey down the majestic rainforest of Borneo. I really can feel the natural surrounding along the 30km journey of rafting. It is really a fantastic experience. Finally we reached at the endpoint, Halogilat and then speedboats to Beaufort town. Because we are finished our rafting late, we need to go along the river in dark. I am THANKS TO GOD that all of us come back to UMS in safety. By here, I really feel enjoy this trip. I hope I still can join the trips or activities that organized by Chung Ling`s Ex-students Club again. (If it is still also open to non Chung Ling`s Ex-students la.., haha.., hope so…) Erm.., I also appreciate this chance for me to join the trip with my friends them (Eric, Pei Zhi, Kah Wah, Guan Wei, Tee Kheng), although I am not come from Penang, not the Ex-student of Chung Ling High School, but this trip are open to non Chung Ling`s Ex-students make me can have this opportunity. Hey guys, especially to Eric, Pei Zhi, Kah Wah, Guan Wei, and Tee Kheng, remember the motto, “Paddle Or Die”? We finally paddle hard when crossing “fierce” rapids, and now we already are the Padas River`s Raft Master, yeah…..Thanks you all guys, to bring the best and enjoy experience to me(after come to UMS 3 months), Thanks!!!
